Angela Yee from the nationally-syndicated morning show “The Breakfast Club” shared some great news on the air today (August 29th). The Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio declared August 28th as Angela Yee Day during the West Indian American & Caribbean American Heritage Reception.
Thanks were extended by Angela on the air to Mayor de Blasio and the First Lady of NYC Chirlane McCray for the amazing honor. You can watch the Mayor deliver some lovely remarks about Ms. Yee, and see her speak about this honor by skipping to the 16:20 mark of the video at the bottom of the page.

As if getting your very own day wasn’t big enough, Angela has also been appointed as an Ambassador of the New York Public Library (NYPL). In addition to being a Radio Talent and host of her own podcast “Angela Yee’s Lip Service,” she is an avid reader with an active book club. Here’s what Angela Yee said about being named an NYPL Ambassador:
“Some of my best memories growing up in New York are the times I spent in the public library where I developed my love for reading. I learned about womanhood from Judy Blume’s ‘Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret’ and the atrocities of racism in Maya Angelou’s ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.’ I fell in love with the cadence of Shakespeare and devoured the teenage drama of ‘Sweet Valley High.’ I decided in first grade that I would go to college and be an English major, which I did. There are so many programs and so much to love about your local branch, and I’m excited to become a New York Public Library Ambassador to explore that with you.”
Some of Angela Yee’s duties as an NYPL Ambassador include participating in New York Public Library events, encouraging New Yorkers to visit their public library, and hosting her book club at various library branches. NYPL President Tony Marx stated:
“Angela Yee is a remarkable person whose success as a radio personality, entrepreneur, and writer is equaled by her insatiable desire to give back to her city and its people. Despite all that’s on her plate, Angela has always found the time and energy to support and advocate for wonderful causes near to her heart, and we are so grateful to be one of them. We welcome her energy and passion, and thank her for supporting the Library’s mission to make opportunity and knowledge accessible to all.”
Mayor Bill de Blasio added:
“Public libraries help thousands of New Yorkers explore the world outside our five boroughs, something Angela Yee also does through her book club and radio show. We are very lucky to add someone as passionate as Angela to our list of library ambassadors.”
Congratulations to Angela Yee on both of her incredible honors!
