One of the reasons why Instagram is such a beloved social media platform is its features. Even though new tools have been added throughout the years, its still simply to use and aesthetically pleasing. But there is a really useful tool that’s underutilized.

Instagram and its sister social network Facebook allow users to create collaborative posts, which allows users to get co-author credit for content. And last year, Instagram stepped up the feature by allowing up to three users to collab on a post. Not needing to repost content, or go to other pages to respond to comments are pros. But the best element of collaborative posts is that content is instantly exposed to the Followers of the other account(s) co-authored on the post, typically delivering substantially increased engagement as measures by Likes and Comments.

While tagging and mentions do bring attention to users, only collaboration posts are shared directly with the Followers of each collaborator. If the original creator of a collab post deletes it, the post will also be removed from the pages of the collaborators. Also, if the originator changes their account from public to private, only their originator’s Followers can view the post. If you accept an invite to collaborate and later decide you don’t want this content on your account, you can remove yourself as a collaborator.
