Creating a top-rated morning show is hard. Creating a winning morning show is even harder. Because of the heavy listenership and the higher rates for ads, programmers work really hard to get the a.m. shift right.
“The Russ Parr Morning Show” had a successful run on Urban One’s WKYS and moved to Urban AC sister station Magic 102.3 a few years ago. But it’s successors haven’t quite replicated what the Russ Parr’s show did on the Urban station in Washington, DC.
“Fam In The Morning” launched on WKYS after “The Russ Parr Morning Show” in 2017 and in July of 2018, Afternoon Talent Angie Ange moved to a.m. drive. This week “The Morning Hustle” premiered, replacing “Angie Ange In The Morning,” but the star of the show is still heard during the morning shift.
“The Morning Hustle” features Angie Ange, Jordan and Lore’l. Jordan had a successful run hosting nights on WKYS from 2014-2017 as Shorty Da Prince. And Lore’l received national exposure on season 3 of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: New York,” and currently can be heard podcasting on “Bully And The Beast” and “Lip Service.” About her new on-air partners, Angie says:
“When Jordan came to DC the first time, we immediately connected and have remained great friends. Lore’l is a big burst of energy and love. I’m looking forward to what we will bring to the mornings together.”
About his return to radio, Jordan stated:
“It’s a blessing for the people of DC to welcome me back with love and an honor to do mornings alongside a DMV Legend…Queen Angie Ange! Lore’l is a boss lady with personality and has a real story to tell, and DC loves the real.”
About her new gig, Lore’l said,
“What an honor to be a part of something so game changing. The dynamic energy the three of us bring will truly be unmatched. Huge shout-out to Kashon Powell and Colby Colb for bringing a vision to life. Mark my words, this is just the beginning! Tune in and stay tuned!”
Congratulations to all!
