In radio, music formats and spoken word formats are different worlds. Talent from both sides strive to entertain and be compelling, so there’s much that can be learned from each other.

On Friday, June 7th, the conference Talkers 2019: Telling The Story featured heavy hitters from News/Talk stations and syndicated shows. Sean Hannity, Jim Rome, and dozens of others from News, Talk and Sports spoke on panels and discussed a myriad of topics.

Some of the main points of discussion during the day were podcasting, the role of Sports Talk in pop culture, generating revenue, how much video to capture from your show, attracting a younger demographic of listeners, watching what you say and launching/growing a Talent career. But one topic came up during several of the panel discussions: How to deal with the presidency of Donald Trump.

When it comes to talking about Trump, Dan Yorke from WPRO in Providence, RI had to strategically voice his criticism since negative commentary was turning into a sharp ratings decline. Whereas others who supported the POTUS, have actually had to minimize their conversation about him as well. WABC/New York Morning Co-Host Sid Rosenberg is a Trump supporter, but understands that he’s in a market with a majority of people who don’t feel the same. Wayne Allyn Root is one Syndicated Talent who embraces Trump whole-heartedly, and focuses on super-serving the advertisers of his show instead of worrying about the adverse affects of talking about the President.

The Talkers Conference is definitely worth attending if you want to fine-tune your craft and do a better job connecting with your listeners. Take a look at some of the pictures from Talkers 2019 right here.
